2012 BNBA Umpire Clinic Letter
Employment Status: The BNBA will treat umpires as independent contractors and not employees of the program. With regard to pay, the league will not withhold any Federal, State, Social Security or Medicare deductions. It is the responsibility of the independent contractor to file the appropriate earnings forms with the State of Illinois and the Internal Revenue Service. BNBA does not provide accident insurance for umpires.
Payment Structure: Paydays will be on Mondays, beginning June 4 and will include cards turned in by the previous Thursday. Umpire cards need to be filled in completely and signed by a coach.
- League 2 – League 4: Pay is $25.00 for each game umpired and meeting all scheduled games. Pay is $20.00 per game if those conditions are not met.
- BNBA will attempt to provide 1 umpire for all American League/L2 games and 2 umpires for National League/L3 – High School Division games.
If it is necessary to cancel an obligation please provide at least 48 hours notice.
Baseball Rules: Baseball rules can be obtained from a variety of sources including the IHSA office, local sporting goods stores the library or internet. Obviously the more versed you are with the rules the better umpire you will be. All of the league rules will be available at the May clinic.
Inevitably there will be controversy regarding calls or rule interpretations; as an umpire stick to your decision and refrain from engaging in arguments with coaches, players and parents. Major issues should always be reported to the league office. Please remember you are in charge of the game; coaches, players, and spectators are not. Thanks for your service and have a great season!
